Transforming Lives in Kenya
On the fertile slopes of Mount Kenya, the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ serve some of the most vulnerable populations in Meru County and surrounding regions. Their ministries support street children, students, women, and families in both rural and urban settings, carrying forward Saint Katharina’s legacy of compassion, dignity, and hope.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Kinoro Girls Secondary School provides safe, nurturing education for girls whose families often have no means to support their schooling. Under the care of the Sisters and dedicated volunteers, the school has grown. New gardens now supply healthy meals for students, while classroom resources and living conditions continue to improve. Here, girls are given the tools and encouragement to break cycles of poverty and build brighter futures.

The PHJC Sisters also lead St. Anne Mission Hospital, a vital source of health care for more than 200,000 people, many of whom cannot afford medical treatment. Since assuming leadership in 2009, the Sisters have expanded the hospital to include maternal and child health, emergency services, dental and eye care, dialysis, physiotherapy, radiology, and psychosocial support. A recently added funeral home provides compassionate services for families during times of loss.

From education to health care, every part of this mission reflects faith in action. Your support makes this life-changing work possible by restoring dignity, improving outcomes, and nurturing hope in communities across Kenya.
