At Sojourner Truth House, women and families facing homelessness and poverty find more than temporary assistance. They find guidance, compassion, and a safe space to begin again. Every service offered reflects a deep belief in the dignity of each person and a commitment to walking alongside them through challenging times.

Case managers work one-on-one with women to set goals, identify barriers, and restore stability. Whether it is securing vital documents, applying for jobs, scheduling medical appointments, or navigating the housing system, Sojourner Truth House is there every step of the way. For mothers with young children, on-site childcare provides support while they take the steps needed to move forward.

Many who turn to Sojourner Truth House are staying in temporary shelters and are from various places throughout Northwest Indiana and other states. Through close partnerships with affordable housing programs and other forms of support to help ease financial strain and promote self-sufficiency, these families receive help moving into permanent homes. The transition is treated as a celebration. Apartments are furnished with beds, tables, cleaning supplies, and other household essentials that help create a true sense of home.

These wraparound services are supported by a wide network of basic needs assistance, for example donations of household goods, food ,clothing hygiene items. As the largest food pantry in Lake County we provide groceries, household goods, and hygiene items to hundreds of families each month.
