Cultivating Dignity and Hope in Brazil
For over 30 years, the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in the Brazil Region have accompanied communities with humility, service, and unwavering compassion. Their presence brings encouragement to the poor, the vulnerable, and those longing for new possibilities.
One example is the Vila Nova Project in Marizópolis, created in response to increased hunger and hardship following the COVID-19 pandemic. A network of volunteers now distributes nourishing meals and offers handicraft classes to women seeking stable income. In a town where many struggle with extreme poverty, this outreach offers both practical skills and human dignity.
In Aquiraz-Ce, the Sisters have launched Novo Tom, or “New Tone.” This ministry offers young people and adults the opportunity to learn music, primarily guitar, as a way to promote healing and expression. Participants explore their talents while gaining confidence, building friendships, and nurturing their mental and emotional health.
Through both new and ongoing initiatives, the Sisters continue to serve with attentive hearts and a deep faith in action—planting hope and strengthening communities, one relationship at a time.
