In Memory of Joe Belisle, Associate

R. Joseph (Joe) Belisle passed away in November 2010, in Wyoming, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, also an Associate. Joe was 86 years old. He is survived by his two children, Jim and Judy, and his sister-in-law, Sister M. Conrad Kirchhoff.

Joe was a charter member of the Associate Community and celebrated his 25th anniversary in 2008. He was active in the summer program at the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ Ministry Center several years ago. He helped organize the programs and activities for the senior citizens for the summer sessions. He and Mary were also active participants in the annual Bazaar.

Sister Nola Weiner, PHJC passed away on July 11, 2010 at the Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson, Indiana. She was born Mary Florence Weiner to James and Emma (Calme) Weiner on January 16, 1912 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She entered the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ community and professed her first vows on June 25, 1935.

Sister Nola ministered in healthcare from 1934 to 1992 at various hospitals in Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. In 1992 she retired to the Catherine Kasper Home.

Sister Mary Cyril

July 2, 1914 - June 11, 2010

Sister Mary Cyril Coesens, PHJC passed away on June 11, 2010 at the Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson, Indiana. She was born Bertha Coesens to Cyril and Eugenia (Cornelis) Coesens on July 2, 1914 in South Bend, Indiana. She entered the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ community and professed her first vows on June 25, 1933.

Sister Mary Cyril ministered in education from 1933 to 1976 at various schools in Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois. In 1976 she began a new career as a nurse’s aide and physical therapist at Catherine Kasper Home and continued her ministry with the elderly until her retirement in 2002.

Sister David

July 11, 1921 - April 27, 2010

Sister David Huelskamp, PHJC passed away on April 27, 2010 at the Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson, Indiana. She was born Edith Dolores to Herman and Catherine (Petermeyer) Huelskamp on July 11, 1921 in Breese, Illinois. She entered the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ community and professed her first vows on June 25, 1942.

Sister David ministered in education from 1942 to 1998 at various schools in Indiana and Illinois. She retired to the Catherine Kasper Home in 1998. Sister David was the last of the four Huelskamp sisters who were Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. Sister Julia Huelskamp, PHJC, niece to Sister David, lives at Convent Ancilla Domini.

In Memory of Sister Mary Dolores Greifer, PHJC

Sister Mary Dolores Greifer, PHJC, formerly known as Sister Xavier, passed away on February 12, 2010 at the Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson, Indiana. Mary Dolores Greifer was born to George and Odelia (Besling) Greifer on October 2, 1918 in Quincy, Illinois. She entered the Poor Handmaid of Jesus Christ community and professed her first vows on June 25, 1939.

Sister Mary Dolores began her ministry in education in 1939, teaching in various schools in Breese, Edwardsville, Quincy, Trenton and Wendelin, Illinois; East Chicago, Fort Wayne and Donaldson, Indiana; New Ulm, Minnesota and Tougaloo, Misissippi. In 1966 she began her 33-year ministry at Ancilla College as a professor of English. Sister Mary Dolores was well known for her interest and care in helping students achieve personal, spiritual and academic success. She created the Ancilla College Alumni Association as an effort to keep students connected with each other and the college after graduating.

Sister Mary Dolores retired to the Catherine Kasper Home in 2004. May she rest in peace!

In Memory of Don Schulte, Associate

Donald Schulte passed away in February 2010 in Quincy, Illinois. He was 85 years old. Don is survived by his wife Rita who is also an Associate. He also is survived by their ten children, 48 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, two brothers, one sister, a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, including Sister Agnes Muehlenfield, PHJC.

Don’s 15th anniversary as an Associate was in 2008. In addition to his active ministry as an Associate, Don was a US Army Veteran of World War II, in which he received the Purple Heart Award.
