The Great Mass in C Minor is a musical setting of the Roman Catholic Mass composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during the years of 1782 and 1783. Though the piece remains unfinished, with an incomplete Credo and missing Agnus Dei, it is considered a compositional masterpiece of the Classical era. Mozart composed the soprano solos with his then fiancée in mind, indeed Constanza sang the "Et incarnatus est" at its premiere. This piece was composed to be utilized during the celebration of the Mass, however due to liturgical evolution, many of the orchestrated Masses of this period are now performed in concert settings. Mozart composed this work for SATB double chorus, two soprano soloists, a tenor soloist, a bass soloist, and a large orchestra. Performance time is approximately 55 minutes.
