North Associate Joe Karnia passed away on September 10 in his home in Chicago. He was 84 years old and had been suffering an extended illness. Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores (Bobber) Karnia. He also is survived by 5 daughters and 4 sons. A son and daughter preceded him in death. He is the beloved grandfather of twenty-two grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother. Sister Katie Bobber is his sister-in-law

Joe and Dolores belonged to St. Augustine Parish in Chicago until it closed. Then they became parishioners of St. Nicholas of Tolentine where his Mass of Christian Burial was held. He is laid to rest in St. Mary Cemetery

In June 2007 Joe was recognized during Gathering VIII for his 20 years as an Associate.

Joe was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps. He was active in American Legion, as well as parish organizations. He had retired after 38 years at the United States Postal Service.
