A nine-state "Nuns on the Bus" tour began on June 17 in Des Moines, Iowa and will end in Washington D.C. on July 2. The tour was organized and sponsored by NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, and the NETWORK Education Program to bring awareness of the harm that the federal budget cuts would bring vulnerable families.
NETWORK’s Executive Director, Sister Simone Campbell, said in a recent interview, “As part of our campaign for budget fairness we are taking this bus trip. All over our nation, Catholic sisters are working at the margins of our society to serve people who are struggling in this economy, people who are hungry, people who are left out of the economy, people who have lost their jobs or people working at low wage jobs.”

It is this knowledge that impelled her and others to organize this bus trip.
