The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ announce several position changes within the PHJC ministries.

These changes involve co-workers, Toni Mola, Executive Director of Ancilla Systems Incorporated; Fred Arand, Vice-President of Financial Services of Ancilla Systems and Treasurer for the Ancilla Domini Sisters, Inc.; Sister Mary Ellen Goeller, PHJC, Community Healthcare System Regional Director of Mission Integration; and Mary Hunt, Director of Finance for Ancilla Domini Sisters/Catherine Kasper Life Center.

Three changes will take place at Ancilla Systems Incorporated (ASI) in Hobart, Indiana. Toni Mola, Executive Director will retire from her 43 years of dedicated service to the Poor Handmaids and their ministries effective July 15, 2017.

Toni began her career as an Administrative Assistant at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago and was later promoted to office manager at Ancilla Domini Health Services, Inc. in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. In 1984, after a strategic planning process, Ancilla Systems Incorporated (ASI) evolved to better position the healthcare system for the future. Toni held various positions in Human Resources and was instrumental in the implementation of the system wide self-insured healthcare plan for the hospitals.  Later, as Vice President of Human Resources, she assisted the healthcare system with the transition of staff during the sales of the hospitals from 1998 to 2004.

Since 2004 Toni has led Ancilla Systems through the major transition from a healthcare system to a service  organization for the Poor Handmaids and their ministries. Under her guidance, development and support services were established and risk and insurance as well as benefits and pension plans were maintained.  She also assisted Sojourner Truth House and Nazareth Home and served as liaison to the four Linden Houses.

Toni reflects on her career, “What an amazing journey I have had over the years to serve the Poor Handmaids through change and transition as they listened and responded to the needs of the time.  I appreciate the many opportunities to learn and grow personally and professionally and to have worked with so many talented  individuals who are committed to PHJC Mission and Values.”

Fred Arand, Vice-President, Financial Services of Ancilla Systems and Treasurer for the Ancilla Domini Sisters, Inc., will also retire from Ancilla Systems on July 15, 2017. Fred joined Ancilla Systems in 1994. As its Controller and subsequently Vice-President, Financial Services, Fred was responsible for all accounting and reporting functions of ASI.  He was also primarily responsible for executing the System’s treasury functions.  In the late 1990s, Ancilla Systems was a seven-hospital healthcare system with $400 million in net revenues.  From 1998 through 2004, Fred was involved with the sale of each of the hospitals.  For several of the hospitals, Fred served as a temporary CFO until the hospitals were sold.

After the sale of the hospitals, Fred acted as the CFO as Ancilla Systems transformed itself from a hospital system to a service organization. Additionally, in 2007, he became the Treasurer for the Ancilla Domini Sisters.  While Treasurer, Fred consolidated the long-term investments programs of all the Poor Handmaids’ related organizations, which resulted in substantial efficiencies and very good investment performance.  During his 23 years with Ancilla Systems, Fred has served as an officer or director for many ministries related to the Poor Handmaids.

Sister Mary Ellen Goeller, PHJC leaves St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart and St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago as the Community Healthcare System Regional Director of Mission Integration to become the Executive Director of Ancilla Systems Incorporated. She will begin mid-June 2017. Sister Mary Ellen has worked in healthcare most of her career and holds a Bachelors in Business and a Masters in HealthCare Administration.

As Regional Director of Mission Integration at the hospitals, she created a working relationship with the physicians, employees and volunteers, supporting them as they carried out the PHJC Mission and Values.

Sister Mary Ellen was the Administrator of the PHJC Ministry Center in Donaldson during the major renovations of the Poor Handmaid Motherhouse.

She looks forward to working with all of the ASI employees who she says “are so dedicated and giving of their talents to be of service to every Poor Handmaid and the ministries of the congregation.  I will never be able to replace Toni or Fred but I look forward to working with all of the employees and building on what they have firmly planted.”

Mary Hunt will fill the position of Treasurer, Ancilla Domini Sisters, Inc.  beginning July 1, 2017. Mary is a resident of Donaldson, Indiana and joined The Center at Donaldson as the Ancilla Domini Sisters/Catherine Kasper Life Center Director of Finance in May 2015. Currently, Mary assists The Center at Donaldson ministries in understanding their sustainability models as they contemplate their future and various opportunities.

Prior to her employment with The Center at Donaldson, Mary held senior-level financial positions in several different industries, including manufacturing, freight, healthcare and Internet retail. She is a certified public accountant (CPA) with an undergraduate accounting degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Mary said, “I’m honored that the Poor Handmaids have extended this opportunity to me and look forward to supporting their ministries in any way that I can.”

Sister Judith Diltz expresses her gratitude to these co-workers, “Blessed Catherine Kasper always spoke of the good that we can do when we cooperate with God’s grace. This is a time of significant change in several of our offices but these four individuals stepping into or stepping out of our ministries now are following the nudges of God in their hearts. We so appreciate all that Toni and Fred have contributed to the Poor Handmaids during their tenures in leadership. Their professionalism and their embrace of our values have been huge; they have guided us responsibly and well. Sister Mary Ellen and Mary are walking forward filling extra-large shoes, but their faith and ability to share of their expertise gives us lots of confidence.  We trust that God’s hand is tracing the way in all this significant change.”
