The project consists of three separate buildings that will each target Gold Level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification: a two-story lodge for staff residence, a gallery with studios for clay, painting and textiles, and a shop studio for wood and metal arts. The construction will incorporate heavy timber framing provided by Riverbend Timber Framing of Blissfield, Michigan. DJ Construction Co., Inc. of Goshen and Warsaw is the general contractor on this project.
Then at 10:00 a.m., the installation begins of a Bergey wind turbine. Bergey Windpower is a manufacturer of residential-sized wind turbines. The turbine being installed at the MoonTree site was purchased from New Holland Rochester, Inc. in Rochester, Indiana.
With the careful planning and now the construction of the LEED buildings, solar water heating and wind turbine, the Poor Handmaids live into their values and beliefs in the wise use and care of all resources.
The public is invited to watch as the timber frame for the MoonTree Lodge is raised and the wind turbine installed. Parking is available at the PHJC Central Receiving Services Building on the corner of 9B Road and Union Road in Donaldson. A shuttle will be provided to the construction site. Refreshments will be available.
