The construction site of MoonTree Lodge, gallery and shop where the timber raising and wind turbine installation will be held on October 21

The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ along with the MoonTree Community announce the timber raising of MoonTree Lodge and the installation of the wind turbine. The events will be held on Thursday, October 21 starting at 9:00 a.m. EDT weather permitting. The raising and installation will take place at the project site on the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ Ministry Center complex at 9600 Union Road in Donaldson.

MoonTree Community is a Poor Handmaid ministry whose mission is to art, spirituality and ecology. It is one of several ministries at the PHJC Ministry Center that creates an intergenerational living and learning center providing opportunities for mutual interchange across generational lines for the complex's residents, co-workers, students, as well as the public.

The project consists of three separate buildings that will each target Gold Level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification: a two-story lodge for staff residence, a gallery with studios for clay, painting and textiles, and a shop studio for wood and metal arts. The construction will incorporate heavy timber framing provided by Riverbend Timber Framing of Blissfield, Michigan. DJ Construction Co., Inc. of Goshen and Warsaw is the general contractor on this project.

Then at 10:00 a.m., the installation begins of a Bergey wind turbine. Bergey Windpower is a manufacturer of residential-sized wind turbines. The turbine being installed at the MoonTree site was purchased from New Holland Rochester, Inc. in Rochester, Indiana.

With the careful planning and now the construction of the LEED buildings, solar water heating and wind turbine, the Poor Handmaids live into their values and beliefs in the wise use and care of all resources.

The public is invited to watch as the timber frame for the MoonTree Lodge is raised and the wind turbine installed. Parking is available at the PHJC Central Receiving Services Building on the corner of 9B Road and Union Road in Donaldson. A shuttle will be provided to the construction site. Refreshments will be available.
